Aaron Dejong in his first big race ran in at 20:44 which gave him 1st place in his age group (11-14 men). Aaron looks comfortable on that podium and should be proud of the work he's done to get there.
Victor Dos Santos looked relaxed and confident in this race. He placed near the top of his age group (11 of 130, 45-49men) and had a very respectable time of 21:56.
Patricia Dos Santos had a fun race and clocked in a time of 33:01. Wow, very fast walking. Keep it up, see you at the next race!
Eric Greig was happy to earn the time of 19:19, which placed him 19th overall and 2nd in his age group. He was very excited to have won a bouquet of gerber daisies for his family!
Tamara Scott was a flash of red when she blazed through the finish line at 30:31. No one has made running in Santa suit look so easy.
Dave Haslip ran with the pack and was also under 40 minutes. Dave had trouble walking 1 year ago due to leg pain. Now he is running under 40 minutes for a 5k. Solid!
Andrea Elms has worked hard all fall season and deserved a great result. Andrea was also under 40 minutes.
Rob Eickmeier has come a long way since September. All the way from being a non-runner to breaking 40-minutes for the 5k. All while in a Santa suit. Fantastic work Rob.
The Megan and Lilla Richardson tag team came across the line together at 39:13. What better way to spend a Saturday morning than running with your loved ones in sweaty Santa suits!
Jaiden Maunder ran a blazing 29:16 to place 3rd in her 10 and under age group. She's very fast for her age; she's very fast for any age! With lots of running ahead we look forward to seeing her at future races. Keep up the good work.
Jensen Maunder ran a great 5k in a time of 40:06 that almost 8 minutes faster then earlier in the season. Great improvement, keep up the work and next season will have some great results.
Andrea Parent came in at 35:12 and had what had to have been a very enjoyable race. Hopefully Andrea and Gurdy will continue to reap the rewards of an active lifestyle.
The McCrory's, Chris and Katherine were out for their first big race since joining up. They came in together at a time of 35:24. Keep it up and have fun!
We were happy to see DeeDee Robinson out there, who came in at a time of 39:15 and looked happy to be in the sea of red Santas.
Dianne Calcutt finished in a time of 39:13, it was great to see her out there having a great time. I think Dianne is hooked.
Donna Mount ran in at a time of 32:50 and was close to being in the top half of her age group (131/224, 45-49 women). She can have lots to look forward to in the next season.
Kari Tomlinson made her way through the swarm of Santas to come across the line in a time of 39:14. Way to make it through and hope to see you at the next race.
For an off-season race Mat Reid was happy with 7th overall and 1st in his age category. His finishing time was 18:01. Sadly he did not get his gerber daisies because he was too busy watching his athletes come across the line. A big thanks to Jaiden and Colleen for grabbing them.
Ironman Arizona
Long time Koala Ange Miller did amazing in her first IM in Arizona. 12:27 was her final time including bike issues which cost her 20 minutes. A 4:19 marathon however made up for that 20 minute loss. Way to go Ange, you have come a long way and have done SO well. I as well as many people are VERY proud of you!

Road2Hope marathon
- Lisa Champion has been sick for the past 1.5 weeks and it was doubtful that she would even race just days before the event. Lisa, as tough as she is dug deep and finished her first marathon. A huge congrats Lisa on a tough fight that many of us would have not even attempted under your conditions.
- Lauren Saunders had a decent race, although she didn't PB like she had hoped. Lauren was 1st/10 in her age group.

For a season that started with high hopes, broken clavicle, indoor training, great tri results, fantastic comeback and finally this weekends climax. Excellent!
- Mat Reid placed 12th overall and ran a 2:50.02 for his 2nd best marathon of 7. Mat was also 4th/57 in his age group.
Great Floridian Ironman
Jack Hewitt had a fantastic race in the 85F heat that saw 20% of the field drop out. Jack not only finished the race, but he won his age group. He not only won his age group, but he won it by 2.5 hours. He not only won his age group, he was also fast enough to win the M35-39 and M50-54 age groups (Jack's 62). Holy smokes. Jack didn't quite get his goal time in the heat, but his results speak for themselves. Great race Jack, and anyone who has ran or cycled with you in the last few months are not surprised by these stats. You have been very fast in recent time.
X-Country Races
Aaron DeJong placed 4th/49 in his first XC race of the season. Aaron just had another race as did a few other Koalas so I am hoping to have more results next week.
Chicago Marathon
Katie Snowden lowered her already blistering PB to a 2:46. Wow. Chicago loves Katie and Katie loves Chigaco. Katie took the race out in a 1:21 and still finished strong with a 1:25.
Wellwood 10k
Nanci Virginillo backed up her strong Toad run with an even stronger 10k placing 2nd/6 in her age group. Excellent race Nanci and you are doing very well. Next race up = Boxing Day.
Randy Matters did a PB for his 10k and also ran the 10k only 5 minutes slower then his best 8k. WOW. Fantastic race Randy.
Lakeside Triathlon
Addison Nixon raced in his last triathlon of the year and did what he does best. Finish strong. Addison ran the 10th/45 fastest runs of the day for his age group. Addy is now working on his swimming and will be a force to race against in 2011.
Alex dos Santos placed 4th/22 and had a very strong. Alex had the 3rd/38 and 6th/38 bike and run of the race and did everything he set to do. Great season Alex.
Aaron DeJong placed 7th/26 in his event. Perhaps the most amazing stat however is his 11th/26 swim, 11th/26 bike and 1st/26 run. Wow, Aaron knows how to close the gap. Great race.
Christa Yoshimoto completed her 3rd consecutive year in the event and once again took off a large chunk of time. Over the 2 years since her first 25k Toad Christa has taken off over 20 minutes. Wow!!!
Gary Swayze, 7th/236 on the cycle, 3rd/19 in his age group. Wow, remember when Gary started the season with a broken color bone in April, a nasty bloody spill in early June, a dismounting crash in August. Gary has been of fire as of recent. It shows you what he can do when he stays on two wheels :)
Run for the Grapes
Rebecca Saunders had an amazing race in St Catharines. 2/20 and 9th/286. Wow. Fantastic race Lil sis.
Storm the 10
JJ Woodley had an interesting race on the weekend. It included a lot of mountain biking, running, canoeing, climbing etc. JJ's team did very well and placed 2nd. Great event JJ and good training for your future races.
Esprit Olympic Triathlon
Amy Mausser had an incredible event in Montreal to cap off her best yet triathlon season. Amy won her age group, took 6 minutes off her 2008 time, and was 6th female overall. Way to go Amy on yet another great race and an even greater 2010 campaign.
2010 ITU World Triathlon Championships (Budapest, Hungary)
Lana Marcine placed 13th in her age group at her 3rd consecutive Worlds. Lana had a great swim, strong on the bike and finished the run with power. Great event.
Alison Wiley had a fantastic race placing 4th/51 and only 50 seconds from 2nd. Alison had the FASTEST run by almost 2 minutes. WOW, and great race Alison.
Glenn Camplin placed 11th/71 and had an excellent race overall. Glenn was strong in all three stages which shows his cycling has come a long way.
Jason Britton has now competed in 10 World ITU Championships and 21 Worlds in total. Jason had one of the fastest cycles of the race (8th/112) and moved up steadily. Jason also had a great run and placed 24th/112 and his 2nd best Worlds since he started.
Mat Reid was 2nd/112 onto the bike, 12th into T2 and 13th/112 across the finish line. Unfortunately, Mat was DQ'd for not stopping for a 2 minute penalty for drafting. The motorcyclist was speaking Hungarian and didn't show a "yellow" card which is why Mat didn't know he had a penalty to serve. Oh well. Mat is still very happy with his 18:09 1500m swim, 40.2kph cycle, and 36 minute 10k.
Muskoka 70.3
Tom Champion did it. Tom got off to a great swim start, had a great cycle and closed with a strong run. Tom had a great August of training and is really motivated for the off season to shed down to race weight and get ready for a fantastic 2011 campaign. Tom was 37th/95 in his AG.
Claire Kenny Scherber had the race she was hoping for and placed 9th/35. Claire has been busy this summer with her new career (a doctor, can you see why she is busy?) but still managed great splits with a 4/35 swim, 14/35 bike, 4/35 run. Great race Claire!!!!!
JJ Woodley did everything right, and ended with a fantastic race. JJ placed 27th/133 in his age group, 1:40 p/100m swim, 31.9 kph cycle (on a tough course) and 5:04 pace on the run. Great stats for the hardest 70.3 in the world.
Todd Hughson had everything going for him. Todd was 3rd/126 out of the water, and was still moving through the field on the bike. A flat tire with a tubular ended his day at the 75k mark. Todd still isn't done however as he has an Ironman this year. His first ever!
Wasaga Beach Triathlon
Deb Thorne placed 5th/23 in her age group with a very strong swim/run and a great way to close out 2010. Deb has shown in '10 just how talented she is and with a great winter 2011 Deb has the potential to be a threat for the podium in every tri she is in.
Christa Yoshimoto was very worried about her first Olympic. It turns out that her competition should have been more worried. Christa placed 4th/16 and had transition times that challenged the overall winners. Great race Christa and I hope that this has raised your confidence for the distance.
Sergei Stevens placed 14/35 in his AG and had a fantastic race. Even if he doesn't think so. Sergei had a solid swim, a very fast bike avg at 34.3 and a solid run. Sergei is in lean-mean running shape right now and has 1 race left. The Marathon in Hamilton.
Gary Swayze had the race of his young career. Gary placed 1st/34 in his age group and had the 5th overall fastest bike of the day. Wow. An amazing race and 1 event to go. Great job Gary, you deserve it and 2010 will always be remembered as the late peaking season thanks to a hill called Snake Road.
VR Pro 8k
Eric Greig had the lead for much of the 8k road race, and was on a mission. Late race back issues did however force him to slow things down. In the end, Eric still had a top 10 placing, and is now training for his first ever Marathon in Detroit.
Ottawa Ironman
Gloria Hewitt DID IT. A MASSIVE congrats to Gloria for completing her first IM. Not only did Gloria complete the race, but she completed it with hours in the bank as she finished in just over 14 hours. Wow!!!!! Gloria has spent almost 2 decades at the sideline watching her husband Jack race, but has spent the last decade buidling her own resume in the sport. Gloria not only has countless triathlons, she also has the big one. THE IRON DISTANCE. WAY TO GO GLORIA. GREAT YEAR OF TRAINING, 2010.
Guelph Lake Try-a-Tri (changed to duathlon)
Dean Kasanszky took the first run out quite easy and had a solid bike. Dean did pick up the pace on the 2nd run and ran 9th fastest in his age group. Dean also almost beat 50 minutes. Very close.
Lloyd Decoff's first ever triathlon was scheduled for Sept 4th. Unfortunetly, he and everyone else didn't get to swim. Lloyd did however have a great race placing 18/41 in his age group and had the 9th fastest combined runs in his age group. A triathlon will have to wait till 2011 unless Lloyd signs up for this weekends Wasaga beach.
Ryan Kasanszky took the first run very easy allowing to save energy for the bike/run. Ryan had a smooth bike, and must have passed a lot of people on the 2nd run because Ryan's run2 was FAST. Ryan was 8/17 in the junior AG.
Brian Champion took advantage of the non-swim race and had a stellar first run. Brian backed it up with the 5th fastest bike or the day and 5th fastest 2nd run of the day for 3rd overall and 2nd in his age group.
Guelph ke Triathlon (duathlon)
Deb Thorne has had a dream season in races, placing far further up in the ranks then last year. The duathlon hurt Deb a bit (as it hurt most of us) but she still managed 7/14 in her age group and with the 5th fastest cycle. Excellent.
Joanne Thomson also had a great race and was hoping for a swim to distance herself from her age group. Joanne ran well (5th and 6th /14 in AG) but had a great bike (4th/14) to help her to a top 5 in her age group.
Steph Teodoridis won again, and most importantly put herself in a mathematical position to win the title. We will know shortly if Steph is 1st or 2nd in 2010 points. Great race in the rain.
If Lauren Saunders was feeling off pace, she forgot to tell the timers. Lauren still won her age group (1/15) and locked up her 2nd consecutive Ontario Points Championship. A HUGE congrats Lauren.
Laura Greenaway has steadily been getting faster each year. Laura placed 4/30 in her age group and had a VERY fast bike split to help her get it. Way to go Laura.
Tom Champion has improved a lot in the last couple weeks. Tom has now moved into the top 33% of his age group with just 2 weeks before the 70.3. Tom placed 14th/42 and is looking strong. Make sure you keep tapering Tom.
Chris McDonald is back after an easy summer following his IM. Chris placed 15th/60 and looked strong in his new age group (35-39).
Sergei Stevens is having his best year in 2010. Sergei has come on very strong in the 2nd half of the year with great results. GL2 was another example as Sergei placed 18/55. Sergei also had the 7th fastest bike split in his age group. Excellent.
Gary Swayze placed 4/42 in his age group with a GREAT bike (3rd in AG, and 22nd OA), and strong run legs. Gary has had quite the season. It would have been interesting to see how Gary would have done without the crash in April. Would have his season been even stronger? We will never know.
Eric Greig has seen some major improvements in 2010. Eric has become a threat to win his age group in every race this year. Greig placed 2nd/26 in his 20-24 AG and had a very steady race overall (32nd/29th/30th). Eric will be at the Trisport Banquet in the fall. Great season!!
Tim Nixon has come on very strong and gave Mat a run to the finish. Tim passed Mat at the 12k mark of the bike and almost held him off. Tim was 1st/40 in his age group and 8th overall. FAST!!
Mat Reid had a solid race even without the swim. Mat placed 5th overall and 1st/63 in his age group. Mat had the 3rd fastest run1 and 5th fastest run2.
Cobourg Triathlon
Way to go girls for placing 1-2 overall for females
Amy Mausser had a great race, and especially for crashing on the bike. Amy still managed 32.6kph and 2nd female overall.
Alison Wiley placed 22nd overall and 1st female overall. This is exactly what Alison needed going into Worlds. Alison even beat the leading female elite. Wow, with a 40 minute 10k off the bike. Watch for Alison on the 2010 World Championships to have a GREAT race.
Ironman Canada
Gina Demczuk placed 3rd/13 in her first ever Ironman. Gina swam a 55 minute 4k swim (wow), backed it up with a 6:11 cycle, and ran just over 4 hours in the marathon. Great effort and podeum spot Gina.
Victor "papa" dos Santos has completed his 2nd Ironman in 3 years. Victor had a great closing marathon and passed many in his age group. Way to go Victor on completing the race.
A huge congrats to Gord Pauls for completing 3 Ironmans in 3 days. Gord has raised over $100,000 for Haiti and has just completed something that I am sure none of us can do (or speaking for myself, I know that I could not do that).
Ottawa Triathlon
Sergei Stevens placed in the top 3rd overall and middle of his very fast age group. Sergei had a great race going until he became dehydrated at the 30k mark of the bike. Sergei is a big guy and is known to lose water fast. Sergei finished however with a strong effort overall.
Beamsville Bench
Josh Jenkins ran himself to a podeum spot and a very fast time on a very slow course. Josh and girlfriend Julia just arrived home from a holiday in Switzerland. They are moving to Switzerland in late September, so enjoy Josh while he is around.
Eric Greig had a great race with a time of 18:46. Almost a minute faster then 2009. Wow!! Eric was also on the podeum and continues to get faster with each race. Great race Eric!
Drummondville and Red Creek Triathlons
Amy Mausser had a great taper and a GREAT race in Drummondville. Amy WON the race overall for females, and by minutes. WOW! Amy has been on fire this year placing in all her races. This includes being the first femal finisher at the Victoria Duathlon in May.
Someone forgot to tell Lana Marcine that 63-year-olds don't lead triathlons. Lana raced in the Red Creek Triathlon last weekend. Marcine swam and cycled the event only to find out on the run that she was the LEADING FEMALE. Lana was passed at the end by a 30-year-old female, and placed 2nd female overall. WOW.
Lana was also mentioned in Triathlon Magazine Canada for her great race in Racine 70.3 in July. She is now getting ready for the World Championships in Budapest.
Ontario Summer Games
Brian Champion's goal was to finish 20-23rd. Brian exited the water 23rd and had an amazing cycle. I believe Brian finished the cycle in 16th and placed 18th by the end. Excellent race Brian.
Mariah Mammoletti had a great day. Fantastic swim, strong bike, and a great turnover on the run. This lead to a 16th place finish. Excellent.
Steph Teodoridis came to OSG's with the right frame of mind. Unfortunetly, her race didn't go to plan and she didn't place as well as she is capable of. On the flip side, Steph vowed to make Orillia her comeback and she was the 6th faster 29-year-old and under in the entire race. Steph is only 16.
National Championships, Kelowna
A huge congrats to the Edmonton Fighting Koalas. Great turnout and results posted.
Alexei Martchenko may not have qualified for China-2011, but he still had a great race. fast out of the water, and a 31kph cycle with a big hill each loop (3 loops). Alexei placed 29th/44 in the 2011 National Championships. Great effort Alexei!
Milton Off-Road Triathlon
Christa Yoshimoto competed in the Off-Road Triathlon last weekend in Milton. Christa did very well and even had enough energy to have the 19th/46 fastest run of the day. I believe it was raining that morning too.
Steelhead 70.3
A huge congrats to Laura Greenaway and Carla Stewart on their excellent 70.3 event. I have yet to talk with them but based on their performance they had great days.
Orillia Try-a-Tri and KOS
Aaron DeJong raced in his first ever triathlon. Aaron had a good swim, a good bike, and an excellent run. He placed 9th/64, wow!
Addison Nixon was right on Aaron's feet. Addy had a great bike/run combo to place 13th/64. Great race Addy.
Katharine dos Santos raced in her only triathlon of 2010. Katharine placed 14th in her age group, and this was after crashing. Katharine still finished the bike, and had a very fast run split.
Celia Sawyer competed in her first triathlon ever, crashed, and loved it. Now thats a trooper. War wounds and all, Celia is looking forward to her next one. Oh, did I mention she was still 7/26 in her AG.
Alex dos Santos continues to have great results. Alex placed 2/14 in the age group and 5th overall. Alex had one of the fastest runs of the day to put himself back into top 5 contention. Great race!!
Dean Kasanszky can race with no back pain. Excellent. Dean looked strong on the bike, and at the finish. Good job Dean!
Mariah Mammoletti has yet another great race this weekend. Mariah was 2nd overall out of the water and 5th female overall by the end of the race. Mariah has always raced well at Orillia. It must be her lucky place :), I feel the same Mariah!
Brian Champion WON the race OVERALL. Wow, and great race Brian. Did that convince you to be a triathlete in 2011?
Orillia Sprint Triathlon
Note: As a team we did great. Top 16% average in our age group. Great race team!!!!
Lisa Champion had a terrific race. 14th/34 in her age group and a very strong swim/bike combo. Look for Lisa to be even stronger in GL2.
Erin Champion may not have trained much this summer (compared to other years) but she still raced well. Erin placed 2/4 in her age group and was happy with her race.
Steph Teodoridis had an incredible come-back from OSG's. In Orillia, Steph swam very fast, she looked strong on the bike (I should know, it took me a while to catch and pass her), and had a fast turnover on the run. She was also 22nd overall out of the water.
Lauren Heinken dominated her age group having the fastest swim, fastest bike and fastest run. Lauren, give your age group a chance next time, :)
Claire Kenny-Scherber also had a fantastic race. Claire has been working hard as of recent at the hospital, but that didn't stop her from racing fast. Claire was 5/31 in her age group and had the 2nd fastest combined swim/run as a 25-29 year old.
Tom Champion is doing everything right to get ready for Muskoka 70.3. Tom was 20/71 in his age group and had a great swim/bike to place him is fighting contention. Keep an eye on Tom for Muskoka. Something tells me he will arrive lean and ready to rock.
Gary Swayze continues to build towards the end of the season with great results. Take a mental note that a broken clavicle in April doesn't mean your season will suffer. Gary has been on fire. He placed 7/71 in his AG, and this was after getting boxed in countless time on the bike.
Alison Wiley is just 2 weeks out of another Worlds. All is pointing to her having the best Worlds to date. Alison placed 3rd woman OVERALL and 1/26 in her age group. She was also 42nd overall including men. Wow, she can rip. Great work Alison!
Josh Jenkins cycled a lot while away in Europe. He has always been a great cyclist but I would say he is showing signs of being faster. Josh was the biggest improver out of 10 that I compared statistically from 2009. He placed 10/34, and with a 6th fastest cycle.
Eric Greig has had a dream season. He has been battling for the age group win every race. People are wondering who this kid is. Eric had an off race. Did I mention he still placed 2/26 and 25th overall.
Tim Nixon is on fire this year. Tim placed 2/59 and 14th overall. he also had the fastest run in his age group.

Brian Champion had great results even though he was still tierd from cycling to Michigan the week before. He placed 5th in his age group.
Try a tri
Alex Dos Santos is on fire! He placed 1st in his age group out of 16 athletes. I guess cycling to Michigan the week before wasn't tiring enough for Alex!
Mariah Mammoletti also did quite well placing 2nd in her age group and 3rd female. She especially had a strong swim/bike combo. Next up: Ontario games this week!
Bracebridge Half Ironman
Deanne and Evan's race did not quite go to plan. Unfortunately Evan crashed his bicyle at the 37km mark. There are no broken bones, just a lot of cuts, bruises, and 12 stitches on his chin. Evan was feeling really strong and was in striking distance to win the race overall. Unfortunately he had to DNF. This is only a small setback for Evan as he has many big races coming up in the near future. Deanne kindly stopped her race earlier when she saw Evan at the side of the road in need of help. Way to hang in there Deanne and Evan!
Bracebridge Sprint
Lauren Heinken had a great race and killed her age group. She came first and had a really strong swim, bike and run.

Lauren Heinken was on fire this race. She came 2nd in her age group and improved significantly from last year. She is also doing Magog this weekend. Good luck!
Stephanie Teodoridis is also on fire and is really doing well at the sprint distance. She was 3rd in her age group, and had a very strong swim, bike and run. Steph was on Lauren's feet the entire race. Watch out for Steph!
Gary Swayze blew away his competition. He had personal best times for both the bike, and run. The bike was the most impressive as he averaged 37km/h which was the 3rd fastest bike split in his age group, and 16th overall. He is looking forward to Muskoka this weekend.
Eric Greig was really happy with his results, especially on the bike. Although he came out the water behind some key competitiors he was able to hammer the bike to catch and pass them. Keep it up!
Ryan Kazansky and Dean Kazansky completed the fat tire try a tri. Both of them did amazing! Ryan came out of the water in 3rd place(overall), and ended up coming 3rd in his age group. Dean also improved substantially. His swim and run times were much faster than Binbrook. His cycle was the same as Binbrook, even though he was on a mountain bike! Both boys had extremley impressive results.
Racine 70.3
Lana Marcine sucssfully completed the half ironman race. It was blistering hot weather and several things did not go to plan. She stil kept going and ended up with a good time! Way to go. Congrats on finishing this gruelling event!

Josh Jenkins took off 2.5 minutes from 1 year ago. Wow, looks like the last 12 months has been good to Josh's running legs. With Josh's ever improving swim, fats cycle, and new running he will be a threat in the 30-34 AG at every triathlon.
Lauren Saunders took off 3 minutes from her PB and tried her hardest to beat Josh (proof is in the race pictures). Lauren's pace over the first 7k puts her very close to breaking 40:00 for the 10k.
Sarah Illife completed her first 8k race. Way to go Sarah on a terrific event.
Mat Reid placed 4th/22 in his age group and had a good solid day with a time of 28:27. Only 10 seconds slower then last year.

Evan ran an incredible 1:19. It wasn't that long ago when Evan and I were in Cincinnati (2006) and Evan was VERY happy with breaking 1:30 for his first time. Wow now he is under 1:20.
Josh Jenkins
Josh has had a fantastic winter of training. Josh was totally on pace with his goal until he wisely slowed up to protect his hip. Josh is resting up this week so he can focus his efforts on the Around the Bay.
Laura Greenaway
Laura used this event as a training race for the Boston Marathon next month. Solid run Laura, I can remember a time not to long ago that a 1:51 would have been a PB. Now your doing that as a "train-through" race.
Gary Swayze
Gary took 5 minutes off his 2008 Grimsby 1/2 time. He also took 15 minutes off his 2007 time. Gary was hoping for a bit more, but these improvements show Gary is in the shape of his life.
Ryan Kasansky
Ryan placed 4th in his 200 Free and 6th in the relay. If you have not seen Ryan swim since the summer you won't believe how fast he is now. Ryan pulled off a 1:11100 Free last night at practice. Scary fast!
Disney 1/2 Marathon
The Champion family visited Florida over the weekend for the Disney 1/2 Marathon. This was Erin's first ever 1/2 Marathon and she did fantastic. Erin ran the event with her mom and they both negative split the event. I wish I could negative split a 21k run :)
PEAK PERFORMANCE Frosty 5k
Todd Hughson is off to a fast start in 2010. Todd ran a 19:11 which was good enough for 2/25 in his age group, and 18 seconds faster then the Confed 5k he did last May. Looks like Todd is going to enter the 2010 triathlon season in amazing shape.

PEAK PERFORMANCE Chill 1/2 Marathon
Gary Swayze doesn't think 1/2 Marathons are hard anymore. That's why he parked 4.5k away from the race site, ran the the event, did the 21k race, and ran back to his car. 30k training day for the Around the Bay............check......
Alexei Martchenko made his race look easy on Sunday. Alexei placed 56/190 in his age group and improved his PB from 1:48 to 1:42. Excellent!
Joanne Thomson has questioned her running improvements over the past few weeks. This race will allow those questions to be answered. With a 6 minute PB (1:50-1:44) and 17/225 in her age group, Joanne can leave the race knowing she is still improving quickly.
Lauren Saunders also improved her PB with a 1:33. Her best time beforehand was 1:37. Fantastic race, and 4/68 in your age group.
Mat Reid had a strong race, had a lot of fun, and was only 1 minute slower then last year with far less training in 2010. Mat finished in 1:18 and 14th overall.
Around the Bay
Alex dos Santos keeps improving. His most recent 5k time put him 6th/41 and 21:39 overall time. Wow!!!!
Dean Kasanzsky improved his 5k time by a wopping 24 minutes (that is not a misprint) and placed 23/41 in the 10-14 year old category. Great run!!
Mariah Mammoletti placed 18/56 in her age group and improved her Bay and Back time by 37 seconds from 1 year ago. Great run Mariah!!
Lauren Heinken placed 8/56 in her age group and with a time of 21:49. Lauren is a swimmer so she will be one to watch with her double speed on the swim and run.
Alexei Martchenko placed 175/592 in his age group (wow, big age group) and was 11 minutes faster at the 15k mark compared to 2009 (no final stats for 09). Alexei may not be doing an IM this year, but he has other goals that he is well on his way to being ready for.
Angela Miller placed 57/371 in her age group and has begun her final phase to prepare for the 2010 Boston Marathon. Ange's result puts her in the top 1/6th of her age.
Brian Miller took off 8 minutes from 2009 and improved to 26/287 in his age group. Brian is fit right now and ready to show us what he's got this summer.
Erin Champion's running has improved drastically in recent months. Erin took off 1.5 minutes in her 5k time from last year and placed 7/56 in her age group. Great race, and great beginning of the year Erin.
Chris McDonald completed his first Bay race and looked strong doing it. Chris placed in the middle of his 30-34 age group and used the race to build his strength for his IM in June. Looking good Chris.
Deanne Hiscock improved 19 minutes from 2 years ago to a time of 2:26, and a placing of 17/315. Holy smokes. Just one short year ago it was Deanne's running that was her limiting factor. Now she is a running machine!
Evan Deitz had an incredible race. Evan has done this race for the last few years, but never this quick. Evan's times have been 2:09 (07), 1:57 (08), 1:58 (09) and in 2010 he ran a 1:52. Wow.
Tyler Lord has his eyes set on the 2010 Boston Marathon. Even with that goal, Tyler was able to cruise to a 1:56 and never be out of his comfort zone. Based on his ATB results, he is ready to hammer Boston!
Mark Hood is FINALLY an ATB finisher. Mark trained for the event 3 years ago but became injured just 1 week before the start. Not this time. A huge congrats Mark!!
Chris Rabbat may not be happy with his time, but he still placed 132/464 in his age group. Chris' helped a friend pace the race so we will never know how fast Chris may have gone. I guess we need to wait till the Mississauga weekend when Chris' attempts to re-qualify for the Boston Marathon. Chris did Boston in 2008.
Gary Swayze has now done the ATB 4x. 2010 was his fastest by 4 minutes over 2009. Gary was also in the top 1/3rd of his age group. Gary is looking lean and mean right now and has the cycle and run dialled in for performance.
Gloria Hewitt has done the ATB 5+ times over the past decade. 2010 was her 2nd best time. Her best being 3 minutes faster and 4 years ago. After a broken toe and a slow running start to 2010 Gloria has certainly caught up. Watch for Gloria to be red hot this triathlon season, she is off to a great start.
Jack Hewitt also had an amazing event at the ATB. Jack has done the race almost every year over the past decade and the only race that even came close in time (because he was so fast) was way back in 1999. Jack is in his best shape since the 90's. What's the old saying??????? "Jack's Back"
Joanne Thomson only surprised herself when she took off 14 minutes in 1 year. Joanne ran a 2:30 at the ATB and placed 26/488 in her age group. Big jump from 2009 and now Joanne can use this experience as a motivator.
Josh Jenkins made the very smart decision not to race in the 30k after a nagging injury could derail him of a great 2010 season. Instead, he did the 5k. Josh placed 3/72 making the podium, and felt strong throughout. Josh's next goal is to break 19-minutes at Confederation Park in May.
Lisa Champion is having many firsts in 2010. The ATB race is just one of them. Lisa placed in the top ½ of her age group, and looked strong after the race was over. Lisa's next goal is the Mississauga Marathon!
Sergei Stevens set high goals in 2010. He may not have reached all his goals, but he did have a fine race. Sergei was 9 minutes faster then in 2004, and an entire 23 minutes faster then in 2009. Way to go Sergei!
Katharine dos Santos raced very well finishing in the top ½ of her age group and looking strong through-out the entire 5k.
Laura Greenaway is also doing the Boston Marathon in '10. Laura did the ATB race at about 90% effort and still managed a 49/371 place finish.
Lauren Saunders took off 17 minutes from her ATB best time and placed 3rd/120 in her age group. Lauren is not doing a marathon this spring so she can focus on getting faster in the 7-10k races for triathlons.
Mat Reid ran in his 7th ATB race since 1998. Mat placed 9th/287 in his AG and was happy with his effort.

Todd Hughson placed 8th/54 in his age group and looks to be in top form for 2010. Todd is racing again on Saturday in the Jordan 5k.

Lisa Champion is on fire this year placing 9th/25 in her age group, and having a great time of 25:43. Keep it up!
Gary Swayze looked very strong this race beating his time from last year. He is giong to continue to to improve all year long.
Boston Marathon Weekend
Joanne Thomson had a lot of unanswered questions heading into the 42.2k run. Would her IT band and knee hold up? Was her longest run of 30k enough? How much should she hold back early to ensure a solid finish. Thank goodness Joanne ended with a respectable time and although she is tight, it's not her knee/IT.
Ange Miller and Laura Greenaway both had close to the same race. This was their first Boston and they were able to take in the sites and crowds along the way. Both just missed the 2011 qualifying time, but all things considered they had good races.
Tyler Lord ran a VERY respectable 3:00 hours in the race. I know that he was hoping for more, but I have first hand experience how this course can eat away at your quads, hams and glutes until you just have pain left. Watch for Tyler to be sub-2:50 very soon.
Brian Miller ran a very fast 5k in 18:50. Considering the crowd and rain, this is a VERY fast time. Maybe even a PB. Was it a PB Brian?
Josh Jenkins started deep in the field with his gf Julia. Both ran 23 minutes and enjoyed the crowds, sites and sounds.
Paris to Ancaster
Bob Rose had a very good race this year finishing less then 2 minutes behind some of the fastest cyclists in his age group.

Robbie Burns 8km Road Race
Here are the results of all the koalas that went out and braved the elements on Sunday morning….
Dave ‘Zorro’ Zorko had his first ever running race and ran a very respectable 37:10 which placed him third in his age group. Congratulations on your first race Dave.
Deb Thorne showed some great effort to earn her a time of 49:30. Not her best Robbie Burns run but still has time to improve this season.
Eric Greig finished in a time of 32min which placed him second in his age group. He’ll being using his prize towards a fancy new pair of racing shoes so he can race 2011 in style.
Janet Linton participated in her first Robbie Burns run and set a benchmark with a time of 51:08, we will be seeing her working hard to cut back those seconds for next year’s race.
Joanne Thomson showed she was one of the hardest working runners out there with her time of 39:25. In her age group she came 11th out of 102, great effort and we look forward to seeing more rewarding results.
Randy Matters was out there celebrating Robbie Burns in style with a trot around downtown Burlington. His time of 54:23 was a great improvement from last year’s 1:00:47.
Mat Reid ran hard and in form to earn him a time of 28:45, one weird fact is that Mat has run within a minute of 28:45 for the last five years showing remarkable consistency.
Roz Thomson’s hard work from training helped her to achieve a time of 47:16, which shows she is warming up for triathlon season.
Sergei Stevens ran 39:28 breaking the 40min barrier and challenging for many positions in his age group. With results like this he’ll be in good form for this summer’s race season.
Around the Bay 30km Finishers
Alexei Martchenko finished this year’s race in a time of 2:37:12 which he was somewhat upset about. However he ran a strong race for the first half and was on pace time but came up just a bit short after the hills of North shore. Hopefully we see Alexei come back next year on a mission to beat 2:30.
Anne Winning has shown continuous improvement over the years in her Around the Bay results. This year she finished with a time of 3:18, the year before that, 3:28, and before that, 3:43. Congratulations on achieving your goals.
Brad White also had a great race with his time of 3:02:27 which beats his last year’s result by about 7 minutes. You can tell that all those long runs have paid off in the long run (ie. ATB).
Christa Yoshimoto had a very strong race; she finished with a time of 2:34:58 which put her up there among the top females in the 35-39 category. Next year she could even make a run for that elusive 2:30 barrier.
Colleen Maunder still had a smile on her face or was it a painful grimace, at the finish line? Either way it was a great finish with a time of 3:13:54. This was the longest race Colleen’s ever done which is an achievement to be proud of, however she is going to need some peer pressure for her to be convinced of doing a marathon.
Eleksey Cedved is one our newest Koala members and Canadian citizens for that matter. He has taught us all a lesson in toughness. After suffering an injury nearly a month ago he got back into training hard and was ready for his first 30km race. He proudly finished with a time of 2:34:27 and is full of potential for development.
Eric Greig went out fast and just tried to hang on until the finish. He is proud of his 2:16:43 finishing time and is looking forward to his next challenge.
Evan Dietz finished near the top with a time of 1:57:41 which was his second fastest ATB out of five. Evan is looking forward to taking his fitness with him to race in the Texas Ironman.
Gary Swayze had a nail biting finish to get the gun time result under 2:30 which he accomplished and had a chip time of 2:28:55. He showed great determination to achieve his result and is already looking at next year very ambitiously predicting a time of 2:20 or maybe even 2:15.
JJ Woodley raced his best ever Around the Bay with a time of 2:30:23 narrowly beating his time from last year (2:31:27). He put out a great effort and was exhausted at the finish. He has shown that he has some great fitness going into this year’s triathlon and cycling races.
Joanne Thomson achieved her second fastest Around the Bay time. She ended the race at 2:38:09, although she missed her goal time she should be proud to have finished 37th out of 490 women in her age group.
Karen Spencely aka The Fastest Lady in Waterdown came across the finish line in a time of 2:31:58. This was her first race in a while and her first Around the Bay. She has a great start to the season and we hope to see more races to come.
Kim Keumehennen had a great time out there in her first Around the Bay. She finished with a time of 2:53:00 which is a great performance since she has only recently started long distance running.
Lilla Richardson has shown some great improvement from her last year’s Around the Bay result which was 3:35:25. This year she dropped over 20 minutes by finishing in a time of 3:13:11. A great performance that was supported by running with her Koala team mates
Lloyd Decoff had his best ever Around the Bay, this year he finished with a time of 2:33:19 compare this with his 2007 result of 2:55:00 and you can see how much he has developed. He has proven that he is fit and ready for a triathlon this season.
Patrick Keumehennen finished with a hard fought time of 2:33:41, he had a great half way split of 1:14 but came up just short of 2:30 in the end. A great start to the season and a terrific result for Patrick.
Randy Matters completed his first Around the Bay with a time of 3:44:14. This was also Randy’s longest race; he can hang that medal pride. He is off to a great start in his running career.
Roz Thomson was with her compatriots for most of the race and this helped to spurn her towards a 3:09:21 finishing time which placed her in the top half of her age group. Roz can also be proud to have finished her first Around the Bay. In addition, she has showed some great fitness for the coming triathlon season.
Mat Reid had a great Around the Bay finishing with a very fast time of 1:57:42 which placed him 52nd overall and 13th in his age group! His time was consistent with his previous year’s results.
Mike Owens ran out very fast for the first half of the race (1:09) and had to pay for it a bit in the second half. Through sheer determination he was able to complete the race in 2:32. His greatest lesson was being able to find out what his limits are, he now thinks he can take a 10 km race on by the horns.
Sandy Owens finished with a time of 3:11:06 and she still looked like she was having fun near the finish line. This was her first completion of Around the Bay and a wonderful achievement to be proud of. It would be interesting to see if she can come in the top half of her age group next year.
Sergei Stevens completed his Around the Bay race in a time of 2:49:48 which placed him near the top half of his age group. He has come a long way from his previous result of 3:06:49. Way to go; see you out there next year!
Around the Bay ( 2 person relay, 30km)
Bryan Stewart and Carla Stewart aka Team Stew showed there teamwork in the 2 person relay race. Bryan ran the first half in a very quick 1:05:37 while Carla was the anchor and ran 1:36:20; their combined time was 2:41:57 which placed them 12th out of 75 in the open category. Good team work and way to take on those hills Carla.
Steph T and Erin Champion aka B Squared raced in the two person relay. Stephanie started the race off by giving her team a time of 1:32:01 at the half-way mark. Erin ran the anchor leg in a time of 1:17:45 for a combined time of 2:49:46. Their efforts placed them 11th out of 85 teams, nice job girls!
Around the Bay (5km finishers)
Dean Kasanszky had one of his best 5km times when he finished in a time of 28:51 on Sunday. This result beats his last year’s effort by about 2 minutes. Great job Dean and keep up the training.
Ryan Kasanszky continues to develop as a runner as proven by his most recent results in 5km races. At Around the Bay he finished in 24:06 and is only going to keep shaving off time if he continues his training.
Philippa Denduk had a great race and placed in the top 5 of her age group. Her 5km time was 26:18 which shows that she is already fast and has a great potential for development.
MISSISSAUGA HALF MARATHON
-ROZ THOMSON had her best half-marathon by 2min and 20secs, she finished in 2hrs 4min and 13secs which placed her in the top half of her age group. Roz had terrific results on Sunday despite dealing with a recent knee injury. We are happy that she is back to health and performing well.
Mercedes-Benz 10K May 8th, 2011
Patrick Keuremennen flexed his old-man strength on May 8th when he finished 10km in 45min 6sec. Out of 1100 participants Patrick was 103rd overall. The result shows Patrick has made great improvement in his running.
Kim Keuremennen had a great race posting her best 10km with a time of 51min 19sec, her effort placed her 8th out of 72 for her undisclosed age group. She was also 81st out of 622 women, not too shabby. Excellent job Kim, looking forward to some more great results this season.
The storms held off for this year’s Victoria’s duathlon, running conditions were ideal and cyclists faced strong winds throughout the course. We had four koalas out to compete in the first race of the Subaru Triathlon Series season.
Subaru Victoria Duathlon May 23rd, 2011
Eric Greig was ecstatic about his placing 23rd overall, 3rd in his age group, and beating his previous year’s result by one minute. Special note: Eric had the second fastest transition (T1 = 27sec) in the whole race, if only they gave out rewards for transitions!
Gary Swayze had a very fast bike split averaging 37.1 km/h throughout the 30km. Gary finish 10th out of 49 in his age group and was close to being on the podium. His time was also an eight minute improvement from the last time he did Victoria in 2009, thus highlighting a curious case of Gary Swayze, as we watch him aging backwards, getting faster as he grows older.
Lauren Heinken went all out on Sunday to place herself first in her age group. Lauren was also the only one in her age group but that just shows she’s a trend setter. With a time of 1h 33min 58sec Lauren was the 18th women overall, and with these points she is in a good position to take the series championship.
Kristina Plachecki came out for her first duathlon and had a terrific result. Kristina placed 8th out of 21 in her competitive 25-29 age group. Her strength lay in her bike split which was the 4th best bike in her age group. Congratulations Kristina, you’re on your way to a great 2011 season.
AncasterTriathlon-Friday May 27, 2011 300m swim, 7km bike, 3.1km run
Ryan Kasanszky had a remarkable race finishing 10th overall and 2nd out of 39 in his age group. Ryan held the early led in the pool where he swam at a blazing 1:25 pace and held on through the bike and run. Total time was: 37:06, way to go Ryan!
Addy Nixon raced his way to 21st place overall, due in large part to his strong cycling and running ability. His swim has come a long way, last year he swam 300m in 9:48 and this year he swam 300m in 6:42. Keep it up Addison! His total time was 40:07.
Dean Kasanszki’s progress has been amazing to watch. He was strongest in the swim and the run. He also had three Hoods that were chasing him the whole way through the race. Dean finished in a time of 43:11.
Celia Sawyer swam, biked and ran herself into 3rd place in her age group with a time of 43min and 11sec. That puts Dean and Celia at a tie; they will have to arm wrestle to decide who won.
Philippa Denuk’s first triathlon was a great success. Her time of 45min and 26secs is something to be proud of. Philippa finished 5th out of 17 elementary girls and was well-rounded as a triathlete.
Lianna Hood enjoyed her first triathlon out in Ancaster. She had a terrific swim and looked really smooth going out onto the run. She finished with an overall time of 46:51.
Mark Hood also had his first triathlon and finished just shy of Lianna with a time of 47:07. Mark was strongest in the cycling portion of the race. It’s never too late to start your triathlon career.
Anna Hansen finished 4th out of 15 in her age group with a final time of 47:16. Her strongest portion of the race was her run which was 19min and 8 secs.
Bradley Hood: Despite some pre-race nerves, Brad had a great swim where he did 300m in 5min 57sec. Although he was close to his Dad coming out of T2, Papa Hood came in slightly ahead of Brad. Brad’s time was 48min and 42secs.
Bronwyne Sawyer showed great strength in all disciplines especially in the run. Bronwyne was in the top half of her age group and had a finishing time of 48:51. Nice job on finishing your first triathlon! (Thumbs up)
Deana Nixon finished close to the top half of her age group in 9th out of 15. Her overall time was 50min 52secs. Her strongest portion of the race was her bike and the weakest her swim.
Cara-Christina Hansen had a great swim, she must have gone all out to get a time of 6min 15secs for the 300 meters. Some very good swimming. The rest of the rest seemed to have been challenging but Cara journeyed on and finished her first triathlon, alright Cara!
Ottawa Weekend
Ottawa 5km
Mathew Reid finished 25th overall out of 7438 participants and 3rd out of 203 in his age group, not too shabby. Mat ran the 5km in a time of 17min 27secs, despite just recently having food poisoning and a colicky baby.
Ottawa Half Marathon
Sandy Owens had her second best half marathon when she finished Ottawa in 2hrs 11min and 34 seconds. Sandy was in the top half of her age group, 282nd out of 671.
Patrick Keuremennen took an amazing five minutes off of his half marathon time when he finished in a time of 1hr 45min and 23secs. His previous best was in 2010 when he finished the Mississauga half-marathon in 1hr 50min and 44secs. Patrick running is greatly improving due to a lot of hard work!
Kim Keuremennen finished her first half-marathon in 1hr 54min and 46secs and has now done just about every distance but the full marathon. Kim was 22nd out of 438 women in her age group, nicely done!
Marathon
Michael Owens had his second marathon in Ottawa. Although he did not reach his goal, he still had a solid performance with a finishing time of 3hrs 50mins 38secs. Mike was 180th out of 428 runners his age and he ran faster than more then half of all the men running, still something to be proud of.
Milton Triathlon- Sprint and try-a-tri
Christa Yoshimito was out in full force for her the first triathlon of the season. She had her best swim time (16:09) and strong bike/run. She was consistent in all three sports and was 5th out of 10 in her age group. Her overall time was 1:56:28.

However, Alexei`s toughness shined through as he was able to complete the race and he ranked fairly well coming in close to the top half of his age group. Well done Alexei!

Mat Reid – was forth out of the water at Peterborough and went out hard on the bike. Unfortunately Mat felt a pretty huge cramp in his quads during the run and pulled out of the race. Sometimes choosing what is best for your health and dropping out of a race is much harder than continuing on through pain just so that your ego is satisfied.
